Start With The Room

Three Ways To Light A Project

Whether you are lighting an entry hall, a lakeside porch or a hospitality lobby, each fixture begins as raw metal and stone in our Milwaukee shop. Choose by application, then refine finish, glass and scale.

Material Integrity

Hand-Sculpted Genuine Alabaster Stone

Alabaster is a soft, naturally translucent gypsum stone. We quarry-source it, then shape, hollow and hand-finish each piece so that the veining reads as part of the design rather than a defect. Resin copies flatten the light; real stone gives it depth.

  • Natural variation: veining, opacity and warmth differ panel to panel — we can photograph your actual stone before shipping.
  • Light quality: stone thickness is calibrated to soften output without dimming the room.
  • Format range: wall sconces, flush mounts, pendants and multi-arm chandeliers.
  • Pairings: unlacquered brass, antique brass and darker bronze patinas.

Designs With A Documented Origin

Several of our families began as restoration commissions — measured from original fixtures in period homes, then re-engineered for modern lamping and code. That archive is why proportions feel right on both a 1920s facade and a new build.

How It Works

Three Decisions, One Fixture

A fixture is only as considered as its components. We build to order, which means glass, finish and shade are selected before assembly — not swapped on afterwards.

01

Glass Panels

Seeded, ribbed, opal, clear and hand-leaded options. Each panel is cut and fitted to the frame so the pattern lines up on every face, and glass can be re-ordered years later.

02

Metal Finishes

Hand-applied patinas over solid brass, bronze and copper. Living finishes continue to develop with time and touch; stable finishes hold their tone for consistent multi-unit projects.

Shades

Linen, paper, metal and glass shades sized to the fixture body. Correct shade diameter is what keeps a sconce from glaring — we specify it for you rather than guessing.

Field-Tested Guidance

Getting Fixture Size & Hang Length Right

Most lighting disappointment is a scale problem, not a style problem. Our sales engineers review your elevation, ceiling height, door width and mounting height before a fixture is cut — then build to that dimension.

  • Entry lanterns: generally read best at roughly one quarter to one third of door height.
  • Pendants over islands: plan for clear sightlines above the work surface, adjusted to ceiling height.
  • Wall sconces: centre height is set to the eye line of the room’s actual use, not a fixed rule.
  • Custom stems: specified to the inch, so no site-cut improvisation is needed at installation.

Experience You Can Interrogate

Fifty Years Of Making Lighting The Slow Way

Brass Light Gallery began in Milwaukee in 1974 restoring and reproducing period fixtures. That salvage-and-study origin still governs how we work: measure the original, understand why it lasted, then build it better. Buyer Questions

What Specifiers Ask Us First

Every fixture is designed and hand-assembled in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin workshop in the United States. Metal spinning, soldering, glass fitting, patination and final inspection happen under one roof, which is how we hold tolerances on custom sizes.

Yes. Most pendants, chandeliers and sconces can be built to the inch, including overall drop, stem length, backplate dimensions and arm projection. Our team reviews ceiling heights, mounting conditions and sightlines before the fixture enters production.

Genuine quarried alabaster, never faux resin. Because it is natural stone, each panel or bowl carries unique veining and translucency, so no two fixtures diffuse light in exactly the same way.

Our exterior lanterns are built from solid brass, bronze or copper rather than plated steel, so they will not rust through. Wet and damp location rated constructions are available, and living finishes will patina naturally with salt air exposure.

Yes. Our Designer Trade Program provides finish samples, technical drawings and project documentation. For overseas specifications, our team will review lamping and voltage requirements with you before production begins.
